Liz Petty – President
Since 2013, Liz has eagerly embraced opportunities to reignite her early passion for music by participating in multiple Ladies Rock Camps (LRC), writing hundreds of songs with collaborators from around the world, playing flute in a local community band, and learning to play drums in a band composed of other LRC musicians. As an elementary and middle school student she failed years of piano lessons, tortured a guitar teacher by taking a few lessons, and fell in love with the flute. She continued to study the flute through college playing in wind ensembles, with a music liturgy group, and at various weddings and recitals. She also played alto saxophone in a college jazz band and a small polka band. She gave up music after college to focus on her career as a physician scientist and to raise her sons. She was inspired to explore music again after meeting the Director of Girls Rock Camp, Beth Kille, during a Kickstarter campaign. Since then she has contributed songs to several albums made by collaborators. She has now vowed to always stay true to where music takes her. She is absolutely thrilled to be part of an organization that encourages and empowers girls and women to seek and follow their creative muse.
Amy Christianson – Secretary
Amy has been a member of the GRC Madison Board since 2017 and is delighted to be connected to such a wonderful organization that promotes girl power, music and fun at camp! She is the proud auntie of a Girls Rock camper, and an educator and teacher by trade. Amy loves all things camp, and her musical talents include playing “Good King Wenceslas” on her flute from 6th grade.
Sherryl Pertzborn – Treasurer
A weekend at Ladies Rock Camp sparked Sherryl’s return to making music. Now in addition to being Administrative Director for Academic Affairs at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health, she is also guitar player and backup vocalist for Punk Ass Unicorns. Sherryl is excited about giving back to GRC—an empowering and transformative experience—and hopes to someday have a photo where she is playing guitar without looking at her fingers.
Kris Huehne – Board Member
Kris participated in the first Ladies Rock Camp and was hooked! As a long-time local music fan, it was the perfect volunteer opportunity. She got more involved with the GRC, became the Volunteer Coordinator, and eventually joined the board. She works as a computer programmer/analyst, updates the website, and is the chief button-maker at camp.
Leah Richards-Guha – Board Member
Leah is currently a Senior Creative Designer at American GIrl, where she Art Directs lifestyle photoshoots and creates brand strategies for all of the new American Girl dolls. Leah has lived in New York City and London where she worked as a magazine designer for several US & UK magazine titles. She lives in Madison with her husband and two music-loving kids.
